Barco Projectors Upgrade Zeiss-Planetarium Jena

The Zeiss-Planetarium in Jena, Germany, the world’s oldest continuously operational planetarium, has selected Barco to provide projectors for an upgrade.

First opened in 1926, the projection hall of the Zeiss-Planetarium has an inner diameter of 23m and a seating capacity of 261. As part of this upgrade, the planetarium installed five Barco F70-4K6 laser-phosphor projectors, with a sixth projector installed in the middle of the projection hall. Barco F70 projectors were chosen for their overall image quality, high level of detail and brightness and ability to present existing content and possible future content.

Zeiss-Planetarium’s main consideration for selected was the ability to address a growing market by hosting events, conferences, dinners and visits from astronauts.

The laser-phosphor illumination of the Barco F70, offering reliability, stability and long-term performance, combined with the total cost of ownership, helped the Planetarium make their decision.The pre-sales service and support offered by VISIO GmbH, who provided the equipment, and VST, who performed the integration work, as well as Barco themselves, has helped to assure the Zeiss Planetarium that they made the right choice.
